Occupational safety and health, i.e. safety at work and health protection, or safety and health at work refers in different languages āāand in different countries to safe professional work in which people’s lives and health are protected.
I am the winner of the National award in the field of occupational safety and health, awarded by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia – Directorate for Occupational Safety and Health, on April 28, 2022 in Belgrade.
On this page are my data and achievements in the performance of occupational safety and health, i.e. protection and safety, as well as the tasks I perform in this field today.
My data
Petar Rakas, professional construction engineer-specialist (7.1), passed the professional exam on practical skills for occupational safety and health (Occupational Safety and Health Administration – Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy of the Republic of Serbia). Previous work experience in construction work and occupational health and safety is required.
Achievements
Since my high school days, I have worked as a construction worker, and then as a craftsman on construction sites. I first graduated from the Vocational Technical School of Architecture in Belgrade with the educational profile of construction technician in architecture. I did physical support jobs. I worked as a craftsman, and I was also a foreman. I studied civil engineering and when I finished I became a contractor as a civil engineer. Today, due to the necessary work experience in the execution of construction works, I am also a teacher of practical classes in the construction profession at the School of Construction in Belgrade (license – Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Serbia). I am a teacher on the subject of work technologies with practice. I taught various areas in construction for three- and four-year educational profiles (construction, finishing works, water supply, and sewerage). Today I am a professor of dry construction. Safety and health at work, i.e. protection and security, have always been absolutely important and mandatory for me, to protect myself and my colleagues and friends, i.e. our lives and health, the workplace, and the environment; tools, equipment, technique, and material. In this regard, at the invitation of Mrs. Vera BožiÄ-Trefalt, then director of the Administration for Occupational Safety and Health, in 2007, together with my students, I participated in the International Conference “European Week of Occupational Safety and Health” (October 22-26, 2007 .) organized by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with the lecture “Safety and health at work during construction works” and the demonstration exercise “First aid”, which I am very proud of, especially because for practical participation in the lecture and demonstration exercise my the students were awarded by Mr. Rasim LjajiÄ, then Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy of Serbia.
I am engaged in construction works, and at the same time, I practically perform safety and health at work, i.e. protection and safety. Lectures and training in the field of safety and health at work, i.e. protection and safety, are part of my work based on the license for a teacher of practice in the construction profession and a professional exam on practical competence to perform safety and health at work, i.e. the previously acquired necessary work experience experiences.
Presentation at the European Week of Safety and Health at Work
The European Week of Safety and Health at Work conference was held in the period October 22-26, 2007 – link to the website of the Government of Serbia. On Wednesday, October 24, 2007, I held a presentation with my students as part of the Conference, at the end of which the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Mr. Rasim LjajiÄ, in the presence of Mrs. Vera BožiÄ Trefalt, Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, awarded my students (who participated in the presentation) with one digital camera each.
